Achieve the Look—Heirloom Rocking Chair Makeover

My client recently moved to Fulshear from another West Houston suburb, and she’s loving her new home! But…

She really wants this rocking chair (it’s been in her husband’s family for years) in her living room, but it doesn’t match the colors of her new home.

We restyled it to match the colors of her existing living room furniture. And now it fits right in!!

Check out this lovely rocking chair now! See all the details for how I achieved this look below.

Steps for this look:

  1. Strip the old finish from the spindles that you want to stain.

  2. Clean the entire chair well with a degreaser/deglosser.

  3. Apply one coat of Dixie Belle BOSS in clear.

  4. Create a custom mix of Dixie Belle Collard Greens, French Linen, and Mud Puddle chalk mineral paint and

  5. Mix 1 part custom paint to 1/2 part water. Apply this to the spindles.

  6. Apply Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in clear, followed by brown to the spindles.

  7. Tape the spindles off.

  8. Apply 2-3 coats of Dixie Belle Buttercream chalk mineral paint to the rest of the chair.

  9. Apply Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax in clear, followed by a mix of 2 parts gray, 1 part brown to the chair with a round brush.
